Tencent has enacted the “Tencent Environmental Management Policy” (hereinafter referred to as “this Policy”) to guide our company’s mission and vision of "Tech for Good" in the field of environmental protection and promote the delivery of more environmental benefits while avoiding or reducing negative environmental impacts from our operations.
This Policy applies to all business operations of the Tencent Group (hereinafter referred to as "the Group").
Governance of Environmental Issues
- 1. The management of Tencent Group's environmental issues is based on the ESG governance framework. It is coordinated and managed by the ESG Working Group, which reports to the Board of Directors and the Corporate Governance Committee.
- 2. To understand the expectations and opinions of different stakeholders on Tencent’s environmental performance, regular communication with them is conducted through various channels.
Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality
- 1. Identify and formulate response strategies for climate change risks in the company’s development and operations.
- 2. Work towards fulfilling Tencent’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality across our operations and supply chain, and use green power for 100 percent of all electricity consumed by 2030.
- 3. Encourage the integration of low-carbon considerations in the development of various products and services while seeking opportunities for low-carbon transformation through digital technologies.
Utilizing Energy and Water Resources
- 1. Conduct energy efficiency assessments and audits, and also obtain environmental or energy management system certifications, such as green building certifications, for our office buildings and data centers.
- 2. Each office and data center campus should develop its own energy- and water-saving plan to improve energy and water efficiency. Actively promote water reuse and recycling.
- 3. Encourage the increased use of clean energy, including but not limited to purchasing green power, building renewable energy facilities and energy storage facilities, and exploring alternative new clean energy sources.
Waste Management
- 1. Waste is managed according to the 3Rs: reduction, reuse, and recycling.
- 2. Strict compliance with relevant laws and regulations is required in the treatment of hazardous waste or other regulated waste; the qualifications of waste disposal vendors should be validated.
- 3. Encourage the implementation of waste reduction, utilization, and recycling projects.
Biodiversity Conservation
- 1. Conduct environmental, biodiversity, land use, soil, and water conservation impact assessments prior to the construction of new office buildings and data centers.
- 2. Encourage the implementation of biodiversity conservation projects, leverage Tencent’s technological advantages, and explore the development of products and services such as immersive convergence, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud computing.

Green Procurement
- 1. Suppliers should obtain the required environmental registration or permits according to the applicable environmental protection laws, regulations, and requirements of local government authorities.
- 2. Encourage suppliers to reduce their environmental impacts, including reducing carbon emissions, improving energy/resource efficiency, reducing waste, and protecting biodiversity.
- 3. Encourage “environmental friendliness” as a bonus criterion, such as energy-saving products, low-carbon products, and waste recycling services. In cases where there are two or more suppliers with similar scores, prioritize the green supplier.
Promote Environmental Awareness
- 1. Advocate for green office practices and encourage employees to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle.
- 2. Conduct environmental education and training within the company to enhance the environmental awareness of employees.
Environmental Performance and Information Disclosure
- 1. Comply with applicable laws and regulations, such as the "Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Energy Conservation Law of the People's Republic of China" to minimize environmental impacts during our operations.
- 2. Monitor various environmental indicators and progress, evaluate and analyze environmental performance, and formulate improvement measures.
- 3. Regularly disclose our progress and performance related to environmental protection in our ESG reports, and work with third-party agencies to verify relevant data.
