At the recent Ministry of Culture-sponsored Second Conference on National Cultural Industry in Xian the Ministry of Culture awarded Tencent the title of "Model National Cultural Industry base" the first Internet enterprise to attain such an honor. Earlier Tencent has also garnered the title of "Model Cultural Industry base" from both the provincial government of Guangdong and the municipal government of Shenzhen.
The title was awarded under the provisions of the Model National Cultural Industry base Selection Act. The third batch of Model National Cultural Industry bases includes a total 59 cultural enterprises and groups. A Ministry of Culture spokesperson indicates that Model Cultural Industry bases have already produced an elevating effect on the cultural economic and social aspects of many cultural enterprise brands. The goal of naming "Model National Cultural Industry bases" is to recognize "cultural enterprises and groups that own the ability to innovate well-known brand name and intellectual properties."
